A Shocking Surprise

Ricky was the lucky buyer of a second hand crib and he happily carried it home. His wife was excited at the purchase and she quickly made her way to inspect the new acquisition. As soon as she looked inside the crib, the woman let out a blood-curdling scream that was more than enough to spring her husband into action.

Ricky quickly made his way to his wife's side to find out what was happening, but nothing could have prepared him for what was in store. When he had a look inside the crib, he felt all sorts of emotions well up.

 

New Mum Alert

Becoming a new parent is a big deal for most adults and Valerie Smith is no different. When she was certain that she had a bun in the oven, ecstasy was the best word to describe the lady's emotions.

It only took Valerie one glance at the item, to be overwhelmed with emotions and she knew she had to sell the crib as soon as possible. So, without thinking twice, she quickly took a picture of it and posted it online hoping to snag a buyer before long. Even so there was something the lady failed to disclose.

 

The Perfect Match

Gerald Kumpula and His wife Lorene were among the first people to set their eyes on Valerie's crib. The carpenter had been shopping for the best gift for her expectant daughter and here was one at the palm of his hands.

Due to Gerald's career, he was quick to notice the quality of the item and looking at the price, he knew he was getting a steal. So the man figured he'd buy it before someone else outbid him. Little did the carpenter know this crib would be the building blocks of a horrendous experience.

 

Collecting The Prize

Gerald quickly ran the find by his wife, and unsurprisingly the lady was on board too. With everything checked out, the old man wasted no time contacting Valerie and arranging pick-up and payment procedures.

Valerie was thrilled that someone wanted the crib right away and she didn't hesitate in giving Gerald the green light to come pick it up. Gerald quickly hopped into his truck and whistled his way to Valerie's, thanking his lucky stars for this fantastic purchase, not knowing that the adage: Cheap is expensive; would be his mantra in a few days.

 

Something's Off

When Gerald reached Valerie's address, he was surprised to find the lady had been waiting for him. Valerie quickly greeted him and didn't waste time taking out the crib. From where Gerald was standing, he noticed the item looked almost brand new.

Out of curiosity, the old man kindly asked the child’s name, but it seemed like he had touched a soft spot. Valerie suddenly went cold and unresponsive; uneasiness was written all over her face. Of course, this topic was off-limits, but why? What was the real reason behind this sale?

 

Acting Odd

Gerald quickly picked up on Valerie's odd body language, and he wasn't ready to drop the topic. So, the carpenter pressed Valerie about the child’s identity, ignoring the woman's attempts at avoiding eye contact.

Don't misunderstand Gerald; he was just trying to make some small talk and understand the situation, that's all. Valerie took her time before mustering the courage to tell Gerald that the child's name was Noah. Even so, the way she said it was so unconvincing the old man's instincts were telling him something weird was going on.

 

Grab and Go

At this point, Gerald tried smiling at Valerie to ease the tension between them, but it didn't work. Valerie was upset and she just wanted him off her property. She asked Gerald for the cash and told him to pick his purchase and leave.

Gerald didn't have to be told twice. The man hoisted the crib to his shoulder and made his way to his truck without looking back. Should he have taken time to inspect the crib, maybe we'd be writing a different story, but the situation didn't allow him that luxury.

 

Proud Purchase

When Gerald got home, he was elated and quickly moved the new acquisition to the living room. He wanted to show his wife their find as he was convinced his pregnant granddaughter would be ecstatic when they handed her the new furniture.

It was the perfect gift at the perfect time, and no one could tell him otherwise. Sooner than later, Gerald's wife made her way to her husband's purchase to inspect it, not knowing it had a nasty surprise awaiting her. The lady wasted no time checking the inside of the crib, and no longer than she looked inside, she let out a chilling scream.

Gerald dropped whatever he was doing and ran to his wife's side. That scream was enough to resurrect their ancestors, so something must have happened to the love of his life. The old man was prepared for the worst, but nothing could prepare him for the contents of the crib.

The carpenter looked inside the items, and immediately his heart sank. Whatever was inside made him feel off and conflicted. It was a hard pill to swallow, but Gerald knew what had to be done. He quickly put the crib at the back of his truck and made his way back to Valerie's place.

When Valerie answered the doorbell, she was surprised to see her customer back with the crib. It had been less than a day since she made the sale, so what could be the problem?

Visiting The Hospital

Valerie hastily booked a doctor's appointment and made her way to the hospital for a thorough check-up. After all, it's better to be safe than sorry. As she waited patiently at the reception area, all kinds of scenarios ran through her mind.

Despite all the negative thoughts running through her mind, Valerie steeled her resolve and reassured herself everything would turn out okay. Unbeknownst to the mum-to-be, things were about to go south pretty quick, and her nerves of steel would be shattered into tiny bits and pieces.

 

Unwarranted Heartbreak

Valerie made her way to the doctor's, and she waited with bated breath as they scanned her body and checked her unborn child. She had her fingers crossed, hoping and praying everything would be okay.

Sadly, all that didn't pay off as the doctors had some terrible news for the pregnant lady. The tests had revealed that the baby's umbilical cord had become compressed in the womb cutting off oxygen and food supply for the fetus. When Gerald picked out the crib online, his intentions were focused on providing the perfect gift to his expectant granddaughter. His wife was on board, and he figured he might as well make the most of the steal and purchase the item before someone else does.

Even so, when Gerald took the crib home, he didn't expect his wife to have such an adverse reaction to their selection. Still, when the carpenter looked inside the crib; he understood why his wife was screaming. Moreover, Valerie's earlier response made sense when he inquired about her child.

 

Horrifying Scribble

When Gerald's wife looked inside the crib, she was shocked to find something sinister etched on the woodwork. It scared her to the core till the lady let out a scream that got Gerald running to her side.

Gerald looked inside the crib, probably thinking he might find a scary rodent or insect, but instead, he noticed some writing of some sort. At the bottom of the crib, “RIP Noah 2019-2020” was scribbled clearly. If only he had inspected the crib, Gerald would have quickly noticed this and taken the appropriate measures to mitigate the current situation.

 

Guilt-Ridden

Once the truth dawned on the old man, Gerald was overwhelmed with guilt. This crib held more weight than any amount of money, and Valerie probably had difficulty letting it go. That's why the old man decided to return the crib immediately.

Even so, he knew he had to do something special about it; that way, Valerie would be pleased with the return. So the carpenter took out his dusty tools and began working on the item, intending to transform it from a bare crib to something that would blow anyone's socks off.

 

They Felt Her Pain

Gerald and Lorene had a large family as the couple had sired 15 children in total. So they understood the value of a child and what loss could do to someone. Gerald and Lorene had lost a grandchild in their case, so they knew what this meant for Valerie.

Gerald wheeled the crib to his workshop, which looked and felt the part. It had everything from pieces of wood laying all over to several unfinished projects. The man was quite good at what he did, considering he even had an ATV made out of PVC pipes in his collection!

The carpenter already had a design in mind, and he quickly got to work measuring, chipping, and cutting away at the crib. By the time he'd be done, Valerie would be more than happy to look at the piece of furniture before her.

Gerald's skill was unmatched, and it wasn't long before the crib started taking shape and turning into something unique. It went from a neglected piece with painful memories to a bench that acted as the perfect reminder of what was to come.

Gerald had carefully thought about this, and he knew that an empty crib was very painful to look at. On the other hand, a bench is a beautiful reminder as it negates the emptiness by gaining some use. Instead of sitting at the corner, the bench would find its place somewhere in the vicinity.

Gerald's handiwork was incredibly impressive, and Valerie was speechless. For his troubles, the lady even offered the thoughtful carpenter some money for his craftsmanship, but he wouldn't take it. According to the old man, it was just a kind gesture that needed no financial kickback.

Finally, with the weird sensation at the hospital and the odd-looking twin, everything was clear as day. With that, Jessica had unknowingly started the most significant battle in her life.

The message shared the same sentiments Jessica had at the hospital. The twins were not identical, and it was far beyond what you'd call a fraternal type of mismatch. Jessica wasn't the only one who had reservations regarding the identity of the babies.

It turns out the surrogate couple had been misled by their counsel all along. Their legal team had been pressuring them to get Jessica to pay them for the baby, and they even went as far as slandering Jessica and her family.

The crooked fellow insisted that Jessica had been making arrangements to sue the surrogate couple for the child. This couldn't have been farther from the truth, as Jessica had only wanted her son in her arms. A lawsuit was the last thing on her mind at that point. Luckily this story has a happy ending.

 

All's Well

After going through the facts and thinking about it for some time, the surrogate couple decided to give Jessica her little boy back. Malachi was his name and the miracle baby was finally home to his real parents.

The family of four was now a healthy team of five and they were happier than ever. More interestingly, their little boy was the center of media attention but that wasn't enough to redirect the family's attention from welcoming him home. Everyone was happy that things turned out perfectly. Well, everyone except the shrewd lawyer.
