The world is characterized by a large wealth gap, which isn't surprising, as it is impossible for everyone to have the same amount of money. Unfortunately, many people in the lower class don't have a choice but to live in poverty and are sometimes mistreated by the wealthy.
Sadly, many people will just stand back and watch it happen. However, one wealthy man found out that there are still good people who will stand up for what is right, even in the face of adversity. He was reminded that everyone is worthy of respect and that we should treat each other with kindness, no matter the economic status.
Ultimate VIP Experience
Tony was a wealthy man who had his own habits and preferred places. One of his favorite spots was a restaurant he often visited, where he always took the same table. He was known for his generous tips, which made the staff prioritize his orders. They were always looking forward to serving him, and his presence was like a reward for their hard work.
He kept coming back to the restaurant not only because of its classy atmosphere but also because the staff always treated him with respect. Even when someone else was using his table, they would immediately move them and offer a free dessert as an apology.
The Apple Of The Eye
As a result of the special treatment Tony received at the restaurant, he developed an attitude of entitlement and believed he owned the place. His wealth and esteemed customer status allowed him to speak to anyone however he wished without any consequences. He turned a blind eye to the fact that he was posing an inconvenience to many customers.
People who complained about Tony to the management were told that he was the restaurant's favorite customer so nothing could be done. Unfortunately, this created a negative reputation for the restaurant; however, the management seemed unconcerned as he was known to make large purchases.
Mouths Are Sealed
Taking care of staff members is highly important to any business, and one factor to achieve this is to create a healthy environment for them, one which promotes good professional relationships. Unfortunately, when it came to Tony, there was no exception to this rule. Any employee who tried to address his inappropriate behavior found themselves at risk of being fired.
It's no denying that customer service is a must, but the special treatment Tony was receiving was becoming excessive. He even often invited his friends to the restaurant to show off the preferential treatment he was receiving, to the point where it appeared as if no other customers were present.
There's No Such Thing As Overtime
The staff often found Tony's behavior irritating, yet the management seemed to tolerate it all. It came to a point where he showed up one late evening and announced he wanted to celebrate something special with his intoxicated friends.
By this point, the kitchen had already been closed, and the chefs were ready to leave, but their bosses asked them to stay and prepare the elaborate dishes Tony had requested. As usual, they had no choice but to comply and work overtime. Furthermore, they knew the amount he was willing to pay would be more than enough to cover the extra hours.
Assuming Ownership
It was nearly closing time when they came in, and only a few tables were occupied, but the staff directed him to his preferred table. It didn't take Tony and his friends long to start creating a disturbance, hoping to drive away the other customers.
Within minutes, all the other guests had left, except for one family who seemed oblivious to their negative behavior. Tony wanted to draw attention to himself, so he came up with a plan to make the family leave as well. However, his plan was not successful, and the family stayed until closing time. This drove Tony to poke his interest in the family.
Getting Curious About Them
Tony and his group were dressed in the finest designer clothes, whereas the family seemed to be from a more humble background. Tony used this as an opportunity to mock them, trying to be as loud as possible so they could hear.
As judgmental as he was, he assumed that they would not be able to afford a meal in such a luxurious restaurant, and his friends echoed this sentiment. Despite his best efforts to humiliate them, the family simply sat there and quietly ignored his taunts. The family's silent response to his insults triggered Tony, and he just got more passionate about driving them out.
Someone Finally Had The Guts
Tony and his friends were enjoying their first course, and he saw this as yet another chance to make fun of the family that had been ignoring him up until this point. He was egged on by his friends and started to hurl pieces of food at the family.
One of the waiters had had enough of Tony's disrespectful behavior and asked him to stop. But Tony, instead of complying with the polite request, lashed out and accused the waiter of embarrassing him. This was the last straw for the waiter, who probably had seen enough of his rudeness but was unable to do anything until this particular incident.
Getting What He Wanted
The family, seeing that no one was willing to help them, started gathering their belongings and getting ready to leave. Without being able to finish their meals first, they placed their payment on the table and departed the place. Tony had ultimately gotten what he wanted – the restaurant all for himself.
The staff watched the whole thing unfold, powerless to do anything. They had to stand by and witness Tony continues his tirade and insults, which were directed at the family. He argued that the restaurant was of more importance to him than the family and that he wasn't going to be asked to change his behavior.
The Gaze That Bothered Him
Tony's gaze followed the family as they left the restaurant, and he was sure he had seen the father's face before. He couldn't quite place it, but he was positive he had seen him somewhere. He was determined to find out the family's identity, so he called over the waitress and asked if she recognized them.
To his surprise, she didn't, but another waitress named Sara knew exactly who they were. Tony was astounded; he couldn't believe that Sara knew the family, but it was true. He was relieved that he had finally found his answer, and it had all been thanks to Sara.
He Thought It Was Getting Better
Sara had seen the entire incident, and unlike most of the crew, she knew she needed to take action. As such, she picked up her notepad and wrote a message for Tony. She finally had the opportunity to give it to him when he went to the bathroom.
Tony's face lit up with a sly smile when he got the note. He quickly stashed it away in his pocket, thinking she was giving him her phone number. He even glanced around to make sure nobody spotted their exchange before going back to his buddies, trying to enjoy himself while bombarded with questions in his mind.
The Start Of Surprises
While his friends had been trying to enjoy themselves, Tony's mind had been elsewhere ever since he had locked gaze with the man's face, and Sara had passed him a note. He was eager to return home and decipher the message, so he told his friends he had to use the restroom.
He opened the note and expected it to provide him with some clarity. Unfortunately, it only made the mystery more complicated. It read, "You made a huge mistake by offending that family at the other table. The father will contact you in the morning to let you know just how much trouble you are in."
Desperate For Answers
Tony was perplexed. Who was the person mentioned in the note Sara had given him? Am I in deep trouble? His usually calm composure had been replaced with fear and confusion. Tony tried to remain composed as he made his way out of the bathroom, hoping he could find Sara and get some answers.
When he exited the restroom, Sara was nowhere to be seen. Tony realized that she had left before he had a chance to confront her about the message. He had so many questions, and now he was left alone, still uncertain about the mysterious situation he got himself in.
Too Occupied That He Forgot Something
The events of that day had taken a toll on Tony; he had no one to turn to for answers, leaving him in a disoriented state. He was so distracted that he almost forgot to settle his bill and completely forgot something.
The restaurant staff had chosen to stay late that night in anticipation of a reward for their efforts, as they were accustomed to Tony's generous tipping. Unfortunately, his baffled mind forgot to leave them a tip. It was a shame, but there was nothing that could be done about it now. Tony had been so preoccupied that he had completely overlooked their hard work and dedication.
A Sleepless Night Spent For Something
With all the wealth he had, Tony didn't expect to experience such a bad day, and unfortunately, it would be a long one. He tossed and turned in bed, unable to find sleep as he wondered why the man's eyes looked so familiar and how much trouble he was in. Did he unknowingly upset someone with a higher ranking than him?
This question would remain a mystery until he received a call in the morning. He was so anxious to find out what was in store for him that he kept his phone close to him all night and morning until he left for work.
The Long Wait Is Over
The afternoon sun shone brightly as Tony sat at his desk, scrolling through the news online. He had been waiting for the call for what seemed like an eternity, and when his phone finally rang, he was startled. Taking a deep breath, he answered the unfamiliar number, ready to face his fate.
The voice on the other side was deep and raspy, and he knew immediately that it was the man from the restaurant. He decided to get straight to the point and ask if it was indeed him. Their conversation would alter Tony's life forever, and he could not have known the impact that this phone call would have.
It Just Got More Complicated
He had assumed that he would be able to steer the talk and get the answers he wanted, yet he was wrong. As he was just starting to ask the questions, the man took over the conversation and talked about how his family was taken aback by Tony's behavior.
Tony was frustrated by the lecture, so he abruptly cut him off and asked a question that could only be answered by someone present at the restaurant. It was clear that the man couldn't answer it, and Tony realized that the man he had locked eyes with the previous night wasn't the one he was talking to now.
Fitting The Puzzles
When Tony realized he was not talking to the father of the family, he hung up and let out a deep breath of relief. Unbeknownst to him, the man on the other end of the line was Sara's husband, and the call was a prank to let him know his actions were wrong.
In reality, Sara had never seen the family before and had no connection to them, but she was determined to make Tony recognize the impact of his rude behavior. While Tony was happy that the situation seemed to be returning to normal, he couldn't help but wonder who the mystery caller had been and the crazy night that passed.
Finally Getting The Discipline He Had To Learn
Tony had grown so used to behaving badly and getting away with it that he was shocked when he was refused entry by the restaurant. The manager had heard about his disrespectful behavior towards the family and had taken the decision to ban him from the establishment.
Tony's story is not an isolated case, as it sadly happens in other places too. This is a reminder that no amount of wealth can make a person good and position them into a peaceful life. While we hope he learned his lesson, may this also serve as a reflection that respect should be freely given regardless of one's economic status.
