The Lowdown on Skittles Gummies

A gummy version of the famous fruity hard candy Skittles has been on many candy fiends' wish list for many years. Now, after years of requests, Mars Inc., the company that owns Skittles, announced they had been listening all along! "You asked for SKITTLES GUMMIES... so we called some people, had a few meetings, talked to the candy makers, ate lunch, took a nap, met with finance, and then said 'let's do it!'" Skittles announced on their Instagram account last month. The company also unveiled how the gummies will look at taste: the candies will have a crunchy shell, like Skittles, but a gummy interior.
The best part of all? There will be two versions of Skittles Gummies, Original and Wild Berry varieties. The classic will feature Strawberry, Green Apple, Lemon, Orange, and Grape flavored gummies. Meanwhile, the Wild Berry will feature Berry Punch, Strawberry, Melon Berry, Wild Cherry, and Raspberry.
"Spring of 2021 is going to be a big moment for the candy aisle because Skittles Gummies will officially be hitting shelves," the Skittles announcement continued. "This is Skittles first ever gummy variety in the U.S. and is the brands most innovative product to-date. The bite-sized gummy candies will feature a bursting like texture and flavor experience that is sure to wow fans' taste buds."
2020s: The Gummy Take Over
ABC News
It seems that gummies might become the candy trend of the 2020s. Jim Dodge, vice president of convenience for Mars U.S., discussed how Skittles is just one of the candies earning a gummy makeover. "We know that convenience shoppers can't get enough of our gummies — from LifeSavers to Starburst — and we're excited to bring them a new experience with Skittles," Dodge said.
It's easy to see why the company feels so excited about this new development. As stated, Mars has seen incredible success with turning its popular candies into gummies. This reflects an overall change in the candy industry, which has seen rising gummy sales, while chocolate sales have stayed relatively the same. Will Skittles Gummies continue this trend, or has the time for the gummy bubble to burst. Time will tell, as the product will hit the shelves in Spring 2021, just in time for Easter baskets.
