Australian actor, comedian, and film producer Paul Hogan came into wide recognition for his portrayal of the outback adventurer Micheal in the film series 'Crocodile Dundee.' For his performance in the well-acclaimed series, he won the Golden Globe best actor award. Before coming into popularity, Paul's first TV appearance was in the Australian television amateur talent program 'New Faces' in 1971.

Later, the movie star wrote his comedy program titled 'The Paul Hogan Show,' which he self-produced about 60 episodes between 1973 and 1984. In 2016, Paul received the Longford Lyell Award for his contribution to the Australian movie industry. The film star doesn't seem to be leaving the scene soon; he appeared in the 2020 film 'The Very Excellent Mr. Dundee,' portraying the Mick Dundee character.

Jeff Fatt: 68, New South Wales

Jeffrey Wayne Fatt was born in 1953 to Chinese parents who owned a large store in Casino, New South Wales. He earned a degree in Industrial Design but had an affinity for playing the keyboard. Because of this, his friends recruited him to join the pub rock band ‘the Cockroaches,’ which was active throughout the ‘80s.

In the early 1990s, ‘the Cockroaches’ disbanded and its members went on to form another venture—children’s music group ‘the Wiggles.’ This was the start of Fatt’s rise to fame, as his purple ‘Wiggles’ character was well-loved by children all over the world. Although he has since retired from the industry, the longtime musician still joins his former groupmates on reunion shows and performances.

He may be in his seventies, but the legendary actor, TV host, and filmmaker Michael Caton won't be retiring any time soon. The star who rose to prominence playing Uncle Harry in the series "The Sullivans" has had one of the best 40 years plus career in showbiz.

Gore is a graduate of the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) making her stage work so incredibly alluring. Julia Blake was born and raised in Bristol, England, where she attended university and earned a degree in drama. After marrying Australian actor and politician Terry Norris in 1962, the pair decided to move to Australia, where Julia rose to fame performing in the theater and appearing in films.

Nowadays, the beautiful actress is best known for her roles in the 1989 mini-series ‘Eden’s Lost’ and the 1990 film ‘Father,’ for which she won prestigious AACTA awards. He again won gold two years later in the 1960 Summer Olympics for the 1,500m race, breaking the world record at the same time. After retiring from sports at the age of 22, the former athlete went on to achieve high-ranking positions in various business establishments throughout the years. Herb now lives a relatively private life with his wife and their six children.

If there’s one man who’s ultra-famous for his satirical humor and remarkable writing skills, it’s Barry Humphries! Thanks to his witty candor and excellent acting skills, he’s recognized as among West End’s cream of the crop. Many of Humphries’ sketches and characters gained worldwide recognition, especially Dame Edna Everage.

Unfortunately, the time came when the award-winning actor decided to move on from his live performances and begin a new chapter in his life, mostly due to his age. Humphries eventually announced his official retirement in 2012, yet fans would be glad to know that he still accepts small projects occasionally, mostly doing voiceover work.

 

Bryan Brown : 74, New South Wales, Australia

Remember Bryan Brown’s impressive portrayal of China Jackson’s character in the 1980 flick ‘Stir’? It truly made him an icon in the Australian film industry! Yet, it’s interesting how he was someone who only used to speak a couple of lines when he was just starting out. Well, things have definitely changed now that Brown’s got several accolades, including a Golden Globe nomination.

Aside from constantly filming TV programs and movies, Brown enjoys spending time with his wife and family, especially now that grandkids are in the picture. We don’t expect he’ll hang the acting towel anytime soon, but we bet his fans are more than thrilled he’s sticking around.

 

Chong Lim : 63, Ipoh, Malaysia

There have been many prolific musical directors in our lifetime, but we think Chong Lim stands out from the rest all because of his incomparable passion for the craft. Part of his success stems from his time as the producer of music legends Olivia Newton-John and John Farnham.

Not much is known about Lim’s extracurricular activities apart from making music, although he does spend a great deal of his time at his Prahran home. The strain of going on tour can get tiring, so it’s understandable why he’d rather be in his private sanctuary! So far, Lim hasn’t divulged any plans of retirement, but we’re sure glad we’ll be hearing more of his awesome tunes in the years to come.

 

Colin Friels : 69, Ayrshire, Scotland

Much like his contemporaries, Colin Friels started as a humble actor who didn’t get his first significant project until about six years into his career. He played the titular character of the movie ‘Malcolm,’ which catapulted him into stardom - mainly since he received the Best Actor at the AFI Awards in 1986!

Amidst his triumphs, Friels went through several challenges in life, both personally and medically. Yet, that didn’t stop him from pushing through and working like a true professional. Since his last known project was in 2018, we’re guessing the Scottish actor is taking things slow, so let’s keep our fingers crossed we’ll see more of him onscreen very soon.

David Oldfield is a self-made man who was born to middle-class parents in Australia. His mother was a small business owner, whereas his father served in the army. After his graduation, he started a line specializing in water sports and gradually entered into politics.

David rose to power between 1996 to 1999 as he became a member of the Legislative Council of New South Wales. After a successful reign, now the man enjoys his retirement days with his family and dear ones. David also makes guest appearances in shows like 'Hell's Kitchen' and ' I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here.'

David Roberts: 61, Adelaide

A thespian of the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, David Roberts was born and raised in Adelaide Australia. He was well known for his theatrical works, television appearances and movies. If you think he looks familiar, it's because he appeared alongside Keanu Reeves in the Sci-Fi movie ‘The Matrix,’ appearing as Captain Roland in both ‘Matrix Reloaded’ and ‘Matrix Revolution.’

He even made a comeback cameo in the Marvel's 'Ghost Rider’ movie adaptation in 2007 starring next to Hollywood legend, Nicholas Cage. It looks like David is taking things slow at the moment with his future professional plans being unclear. Either way, we know this man still has the strength to do whatever he desires and excel in it!

 

 

Genevieve Lemon : 63, Sydney

Genevieve Lemon is unique and special - just like her name. She was happy doing amateur theatre but did not know that her talent would one day earn her international recognition through soap operas like 'Sons and Daughters and 'The Young Doctors.'

Despite the fame, Genevieve is a humble lady following her passion even in her sixties. Although the Sydney Theatre Award winner has been on and off the big screen, she never really announced her retirement. Perhaps, taking these breaks helps Genevieve come back even stronger; after all, we all need time to relax, unwind, or learn a new skill.

 

John Bucchino: 69, South Philadelphia

It might seem surprising to hear that John Bucchino, famed American songwriter, accompanist, and performer, never had music lessons or studied music at all. On his own, he learned how to play the piano by ear, and being a songwriter was never part of his plan.

Bucchino worked as an accompanist for several singers in the eighties, recording his own piano compositions during his spare time. Those tapes were what led him to be discovered, and he has since written, composed, and performed numerous musicals and songs. After working with some of the biggest artists, this talented personality has truly made a mark in the music industry. John currently lives a quiet life in Tucson, taking care of his mom.

 

 

Kevin Bartlett: 74, Carlton

Most people remember Kevin Bartlett as a sports commentator on both television and radio media. Yet, he was also a former Australian rules footballer who played for the "Victorian Football League" between 1965 and 1983 before venturing into the media. He acted as a member of the AFL's rules committee for some years and became a "Member of the Order of Australia" in 1981.

After retiring from football, Kevin coached "Richmond" in 1987 and was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame and Richmond Hall of Fame in 1996 and 2002. Safe to say, he has made a name for himself in "Richmond" and beyond.

 

Kris McQuade: 69, Coffs Harbour

Kris McQuade's acting career began when she was only 17 years old, with a debut in an episode of the Australian TV series 'Bellbird.' The Coffs Harbour-born actress popularly known for her roles in the 1992 "Strictly Ballroom" and 2003 "Ned Kelly" films continued to make television and theatre appearances that were successful in Australia and beyond.

Kris is one actress who has spent her acting career on the Australian scene, although she got the attention of the international audience. The veteran actress expanded her reach in the 2000s and is still very active in the industry with no sign of retirement in the picture.

 

Leigh Matthews: 69, Victoria

As a young teen, George Pell was a scholar, an actor and played football in his school and later for VFL reserves. His interests may have developed into a career, or he could have chosen to do a degree in medicine or law as people expected, but that shifted to the priesthood, why you might wonder.

Germaine Greer became a household name in the '70s as she launched her first book - 'The Female Eunuch.' Her thoughts impressed the readers, and she became the voice of a minority community. The celeb's ideas have earned her the status of Public Intellect and one of the bestselling Australian writers.

Besides writing and teaching, Greer tried her hand at acting as well. You may watch some of her earlier projects, including 'Twice a Fortnight,' 'Darling,' and 'Good Old Nocker' to witness her breathtaking skills. It wouldn't be wrong to say that Greer is a talent hub! Even in her senility age, the lady is still publishing, working, and making public appearances.

Australian musician Murray Cook is well known as one of the founding members of the Australian rock band 'The Wiggles.' Cook provided vocals, guitar, and writing during his active years with the famous group. Before founding the group, the music maestro had struggled earlier as an upcoming artist, which forced him to return to university. He met his future colleagues, Anthony Fields and Grey Page.

Cook had an astounding career performing and touring with the rock band between 1991 and 2012. After his retirement, he served as a tour manager for the group and remained involved in other team projects.

Alan Sugar : 74, East London, England

Alan Sugar is among England’s most lucrative entrepreneurs around, having started his first business venture back in 1968. Yet, he never limited himself to a singular life endeavor as Alan also dabbled in other money-making projects, such as becoming a host for the popular reality show ‘The Apprentice.’

Well, it seems Alan has no plans on retiring soon despite his age, considering he’s busy being the newly appointed CEO for another TV program called ‘The Celebrity Apprentice Australia.’ Regardless, he makes sure to devote his time accordingly between his other companies on top of helping various charities, like Jewish Care, when he’s not in front of the camera. That’s one hardworking man right there!

 

Allan Border : 66, New South Wales, Australia

One might remember Allan Border as the former captain of Australia’s national cricket team for several years. His stellar skills on the field brought incredible honor to the country, so much that Border received the prestigious ‘Australian of the Year’ award in 1994.

After his retirement, Border went on to pursue other projects and received other accolades in the process. Fans shouldn’t miss him too much, though, as Border’s become a prominent TV personality after landing a job with ‘Fox News Australia’ as their resident sports commentator. At the rate he’s going, we expect we’ll be seeing a lot more of the famous cricket player.

Sigrid Thornton: 62, Canberra

An older generation will vividly remember Sigrid Thornton from her earlier works such as the TV series ‘Homicide and Division 4’ in 1975 and ‘The Getting of Wisdom.’ Even in her early years in acting, Sigrid was so exceptional she was nominated for the Australian Film Awards Best Actress in 1979. The renowned actress has continued with the same vigor in more recent roles, eventually winning an AACTA award.

As a mother of two, Thornton is passionate about children, which shows in her charitable involvement with the Royal Children’s Hospital and World Vision projects. When she is not taking any acting roles, the thespian enjoys some peace in the Melbourne home that she shares with her husband, Tom Burstall.

 

Tracy Mann: 64, Adelaide

With a career stretching as far behind as the 70s, it is no wonder that Tracy Man has warmed her way into people’s hearts. She got her big break in the soap opera ‘The Box.’ The acclaimed actress is probably best known for her role as Georgie Baxter in ‘Prisoner,’ though she has played many lead roles on numerous TV shows.

The thespian has bagged several accolades for her performances, including a Logie Award for Most Popular Actress in ‘Sword of Honour.’ She is also a proud holder of the AFI Best Actress Award and Sammy Award for Best New Talent for ‘Hard Knocks.’ Mann converted to Buddhism, and she spends her days practicing her new spirituality.

 

Wayne Gardner: 62, Wollongong, New South Wales

At the young age of 18, Wayne Gardner began his career in motorcycle racing. He entered the Australian championship with a 'Yamaha TZ250' bike acquired second-handedly, where he came second. Gardner would secure his first win and top position only a few weeks later at Oran Park Raceway.

From there onwards, it was a high trajectory for the motorist going as far as receiving honors like being made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 1988. The racer retired from the sport in 1992, briefly getting into Touring Car championships, from which he finally let go in 2001. Wayne now spends his time concentrating on the construction of the Bellambi Commercial Centre at his birthplace Wollongong.

 

Geoffrey Rush: 70, Toowoomba, Queensland

If you are looking for motivation to get you through the week, just look at the diligent actor Geoffrey Rush. The gentleman is counted among 24 people ever to win the Triple Crown of Acting: a Primetime Emmy Award, an Academy Award, and a Tony Award. Hard work indeed pays off well!

Sound in both mind and limb, Geoffrey has entered his 70's and is still a big part of the entertainment world. He has delivered incredible movies like 'Storm Boy' and the television series - 'Genius.' Luckily, we will get to watch a lot more of Geoffrey as he is not thinking of retiring anytime soon.
